Begonia Cleopatra (Cleopatrae) - Eyelash Begonia Rhizomatous Houseplant
Description:
Add a touch of dramatic elegance to your indoor jungle with the stunning Begonia 'Cleopatra' (often referred to as Begonia cleopatrae). Known for its mesmerizing, star-shaped leaves and unique "eyelash" hairs along the margins, this rhizomatous begonia is a must-have for both beginner and seasoned plant collectors.
The foliage is a visual masterpiece, featuring a vibrant mix of chartreuse, deep bronze, and chocolate-brown map-like patterns. As the light changes, the intricate coloration of the leaves shifts, revealing pale green veining and rich, burgundy undersides. In the right conditions, you'll be rewarded with delicate clusters of pale pink or white flowers dancing on tall stems above the foliage.
Why You'll Love It:
- Stunning Visual Contrast: The deeply lobed, maple-like leaves offer colors ranging from bright golden-green to dark chocolate.
- Compact Growth Habit: Perfect for terrariums, windowsills, shelves, or hanging baskets.
- Easy Care: More resilient and forgiving than cane or rex begonias, making it a great entry-level rhizomatous variety.
Care Instructions:
- Light: Thrives in bright, indirect light. Avoid direct sunlight, which can scorch the delicate leaves and fade their brilliant coloration.
- Water: Allow the top 1-2 inches of soil to dry out before watering thoroughly. Rhizomatous begonias are sensitive to overwatering; ensure excellent drainage to prevent root rot.
- Humidity: Appears happiest in moderate to high humidity (50%+). Place on a pebble tray, near a humidifier, or group with other plants to boost local moisture.
- Soil: Use a lightweight, well-draining potting mix rich in organic matter (perlite and peat moss mixes work beautifully).
- Temperature: Keep in a warm environment between 65°F and 85°F (18°C–29°C). Protect from cold drafts and sudden temperature drops.
What’s Included:
- Healthy, well-rooted Begonia 'Cleopatra' plant.
